Baptism of the Lord by Sister Clare

BAPTISM OF THE LORD

Matthew 3:13-17untitled

This gospel from Matthew is one of my favorites.  Jesus hears as he comes out of the waters of Baptism, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased”.  Too often in our religious upbringing, many of us heard how sinful we were.  I certainly never would have thought I was the beloved of the Lord.  And yet I know myself to be just that, the beloved of the Lord.  So I invite you to try this on for a spiritual practice with this reading.  Pray with this statement.  “This is my beloved (your name), with whom I am well pleased.”  Just sit with that, breathe and soak up the beauty of God’s love for you. I pray that you can recognize this as a truth.

Blessings,

Clare Carr, OSB
