Our God is a God of relationship. Today we celebrate the beauty of that loving relationship of the Father and Son expressed through the Holy Spirit.
How many times did Jesus tell the disciples and us; “The Father and I are one.” “I live in the Father and the Father lives in me.” “If you have seen me you have seen the Father.” “I am going to the Father…so that we may send the Advocate to you.” This is a relationship of pure, unconditional love. It is the basis of true peace and unity.
Even more awesome to me is the reality that God wants to share the same loving, peace filled relationship with you and me. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” Jesus came so that we might be saved and share in God’s love and peace.
Like Moses in the first reading we can say, ”If I find favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our company.” Like the Israelites we are a “stiff-necked people”. But God still wants to travel on our earthly journey with us. How often do I/you invite God to come into the ordinary daily activities?
Yesterday was Father’s Day, a time when we celebrate the loving relationship with our earthly fathers. Many of us learned about love and support from the relationship we have/had with our dads. Has this relationship deepened our relationship with our heavenly father?
